Electronics

Herfco offers custom manufacturing services from our state-of-the-art facility in Shirley, Massachusetts. We stamp deep-drawn parts from a broad range of materials and specialize in short runs of complex parts, though we can handle low or high volumes. Our highly experienced team also provides design support, and we design and fabricate tooling in-house to help control project costs. We have the right people and right equipment to provide innovative, competitively priced solutions for deep drawn parts.

What is Deep-Draw Stamping?

When a metal stamping design requires the depth of the part to be greater than the diameter, this is considered a deep draw. The deep drawing process offers an affordable method to create strong, lightweight, geometrically complex stamped metal parts.

Deep-draw stamping uses a hydraulic transfer press, wherein the workpiece is transferred between stations for different operations. Transfer press operations can be largely automated after initial setup and programming, which offers improved speed and accuracy to final parts. The first operation creates a metal blank from stock sheet metal, which is then formed through a series of subsequent draws and other processes using dies at other stations. As a cold forming process, deep drawing improves the strength of the final component.

Creating tooling and dies for deep draw stamping is more affordable than comparable processes, such as progressive die stamping, which makes the method ideal for lower-volume production. However, the rapid speed of deep-draw stamping makes it well-suited to long-term or high-volume production runs as well.

Deep-draw stamping is compatible with a broad range of metals, such as:

  • Alloys
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Bronze
  • Cold-rolled steel
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Molybdenum
  • Nickel
  • Silver
  • Stainless steel
  • Tungsten
